Amphenol's Backshells offer dependable strain relief, environmental protection, and EMI/RFI shielding for the termination area of virtually any circular connector, including MIL-DTL-5015, MIL-DTL-26482, MIL-DTL-38999, and MIL-DTL-83723. We provide an extensive range of QPL (M85409) and Commercial Backshells. Amphenol PCD offers Strain Relief Backshells for light to medium cable protection. Easily manufactured with a small form factor, Strain Relief Backshells are cost effective. For heavier cable assemblies, Non-Environmental Backshells are offered with a longer metal body, EMI/RFI (electromagnetic interference and radio frequency interference) shielding can be added with the addition of extra rings.  For applications requiring waterproof sealing and other liquids, Amphenol PCD offers Environmental and Environmental EMI/RFI Backshells. with the use of rubber Grommets to provide an air-tight seal.

Amphenol PCD now offers a multi-directional backshell, OmniLite, in an Ultem Composite - high performance thermoplastic. OmniLite Backshell’s octagonal design allows multiple angles to mate with D38999 Series III and IV circular connectors.  Ideal for new and existing cable assemblies that need to be adjusted on the fly as well as SKU reduction efforts for distributors and OEMS.

Crimp Ring Adapter Backshells offer strain relief and low DC (direct current) resistance. Many cable terminations where heat shrink boots are used will require provision for terminating the screens too.  It is achieved in this type of backshell through a ring, which can be crimped to the backshell body holding the screens in between. Band Lock Adapter Backshells provide EMI/RFI shielding, strain relief, and shield termination by suitable band style. Tempered bands are tightened over the shields, which is pulled over the banding area, using industry standard assembly tools. Suitable to be used with heat shrink boot or other methods.  Both crimp ring and band lock give a low dc resistance. This adapter comes with a pre cut braid that is fitted to the adapter for easy assembly and the standard length is 6 inches.  This braid overlaps with the cable braid and effective shielding takes place due to its 360 degree contact. It is designed to accept heat shrink boot as well.  Customers looking for electromagnetic shielding for short distances should consider this product alone or with heat shrink boots.

Amphenol PCD Grommet Nuts provide a good holding force for a crimp connector when costly and heavy Backshells are not needed. This force is essential to hold the contacts and grommet in place when terminated with wire bundles.  APCD SQ Adapters are a cost-effective way to terminate the braid to the adapter.  The braid is pulled over the conical shape to the rear end of the adapter and tied.  The end nut is tightened to ensure adequate grip for the shielding.  Heat shrink boot can also be used with this adapter.

Engine Backshells are qualified to Aerospace Defence Security (ADS) TS302 specification - ESC 75, 76, & 77, 51, 52, 65, 66, 67 & Rolls Royce to ESC 81, 86 & 87. These Backshells are ideal for High Vibration and High Temperature environments. By using an Electron Beam Welding process, this ensures repeatable precision and quality
